What you will need:Ĭrochet Hook: I used the H (5.0mm) Odyssey Hook, from Furls. Each row is worked down and back in the same color yarn eliminating all the extra ends. ![]() You will need to follow the instruction of your pattern to know how it is worked either one row at a time cutting the yarn after each row and returning to the start of the row to start the next color or in my preferred method Interlocking Mosaic Crochet. There are more to come!! Let’s Practice Mosaic Crochet:Ī typical chart you would see when looking at Mosaic Crochet patterns is very straightforward, you have your main color (MC) and a contrast color (CC) and an X to indicated where you will work a Mosaic Double Crochet. Other Mosaic Crochet patterns that I recommend are: It would be best to crochet around/over the chain stitches so there are no loops on the back as a choking/entanglement risk. But, I do recommend using caution if your mosaic project is for a small child or baby. Working the Mosaic dc sts in front of the chain stitches will have a bolder/more defined look on the front or right side of your project. With this option, you can dc in front of the chain space or around the chain stitches. ![]() Interlocking Mosaic Crochet is a great option if you don’t want fringe or a lot of ends to weave in. Then there is my preferred method Interlocking Mosaic. There is the more classic way, where you start each row at the right and work toward the left, fastening off after each row. When working Mosaic Crochet there are 2 ways to work it up. I know Mosaic Crochet can look intimidating, what with all the beautiful colorwork, but as a general rule, you are only using one color per row! Really the hardest part of Mosaic Crochet is picking up the hook to start. But once you got those down, jump in, it really is just sc, dc, and chaining that makes all that lovely texture. ![]() Now Mosaic Crochet shouldn’t be a first project by any means, there are definitely stitches you will need to be comfortable with before you attempt it, like Single Crochet (sc), Double Crochet (dc), and chaining. And just to make it a little easier I put together Mosaic Crochet Tips & Trick + Free Pattern! It is no secret I am a huge fan of colorwork, and when I was experimenting with different techniques I re-discovered Mosaic Crochet, and I found that I really enjoyed it! Mosaic Crochet is a technique that LOOKS hard but is actually, quite beginner friendly. Regardless of how you decide to manage your ends, I have tried to compile a list of YouTube videos I have found that show a variety of techniques to work a double (or envelope) border.I have been really inspired lately by Mosaic Crochet. The only terrifying issue I have found is that, if you are not able to sew over the entire piece, there will be tiny little pieces left to trim on the back of your work at the end and it can be scary trimming them and not cutting into your work! I have done it so often that it has become second nature. In many of my pieces I have taken to sewing in the ends when I start and end a row so that I do not have to tie them all off at the end. One deterrent to working overlay mosaic patterns is all of those ends!! Blech – its way too exciting to finish a piece to just be confronted with ends, and ends, and ends, and….ENDS! ![]()
